Meet me in Chicago: Monday 23/2/26

 Monday  23/2/26

On our last full day in Chicago we woke up to light snow outside the window.  Just little specks here and there. Not even enough to show up in a photo.  Sorry, but it was beautiful and kind of ethereal.

After a quick breakfast a the bar of the hotel, it was time for the architecture tour on the river.  The Windella was noticeably almost empty probably because it was -3 degrees with wind chill making it feel like  -7 to -15 degrees on the water.  Even in the cabin sitting near the bar was cold.  Even appropriately dressed with thermals, two layers plus big coat plus scarf plus hat and gloves,  it was still cold. One of us (me) handles cold better than the other one. I also had a Katmandu coat on while Paul had a Temu coat on. His choice.

Crossing the river to the cruise boat

Me waiting. Look snow!

So much to look at and so much information. It was fascinating and i have taken many photos (sorry).

Paul waiting in line for the cruise. Note, not a big queue!

This is where the great fire of chicago started. the radio type tower on the right above the smoke stack looking building. The story includes Mrs O'leary's cow and the pub....

So many beautiful and interesting buildings showcasing a variety of styles and eras. Fascinating and beautiful.

And note,  there is some sun out today which just makes it colder!!!!!!

So we needed lunch and found a Smash Burger outlet. Sounds good.

It turned out OK as they had gluten free buns and Paul was able to get a hot dog, a hot chilli dog.  So American.

Chilli dog

My GF burger was one of the nicest i have had!

After a quiet afternoon organising our departure tomorrow, it was time to have dinner. On our last night we had planned to try the famous Chicago deep dish pizza.  After much research, I found a place selling gluten free deep dish pizza.  Believe it or not!

Lou Malnati's Pizza are famous for their pizza. Lou apparently was a famous sportsman who now has a chain of these pizza restaurants.  Paul has actually heard of him. Me not.
Their sizing was great with a 'personal', Small, Medium and Large sizes.  I wanted the littlest personal size which just meant for one person.  Unfortunately I could only get gluten free in a Small size, probably meant for 1-2.  Paul decided to order a Medium, probably meant for 3-4 people.  That's a lot of pizza.

Mine is at the top and Paul's below

This is a piece of mine. Huge but great toppings. Not that keen on the doughy thick base.

What we left behind plus more.

Back to our hotel to prepare for tomorrow for our flight to Las Vegas.  Chicago has been lovely and i will never forget the magic of falling snow.  Nor will i forget our street,  Wacker Street,  and Lower Wacker and Upper Wacker.  Not only did they give it a silly name, they repeated it 3 times.

Gotta love America. So far I do!!!
